Golden Gnome Awards are Back!

SWARTHMORE COMMUNITY CENTER’S GOLDEN GNOME AWARDS ARE BACK ! After a year’s respite, and by public demand, the Swarthmore Community Center will hold its widely popular Golden Gnome Awards Talent Show on Saturday the 25th February. Stepping up to the plate as Emcee this year is none other than Borough Manager, Jane Billings, ably assisted by judges, Jeanine Osayande, Marty Spiegel and Scott Ford. A special mention must go to Scott for not only agreeing to judge but simultaneously he will be operating the infamous Gnome ClapOMeter. Tickets are on sale for $15 which includes beer/wine/snacks and are available at the library, or contact John @ 610-207-6494 or Carol @ 610-328-5737. Doors open @ 8 pm and the Show starts promptly @ 8:30 pm. Music lovers will be relieved to learn that the Krazy Kazoo Band, who many will remember from the 2009 Show, have agreed NOT to perform. Rumor has it there was some sort of financial incentive involved to ensure their non-appearance! Seating is limited, buy your tickets now to avoid disappointment

Creative Theater

Holiday break: Play in a Day
Dec. 27th-29th: 8:30am-4:30pm

Have you ever wanted to star in a play you helped create? Join us this winter break, as students learn all about theatre by doing it themselves! Children are guided, by the instructors, through a process where they play theatre games, create a story, and work together to make that story into a working theatrical production. The participants create their own character, plot, props, costumes, title, and everything else that’s needed to make the production complete. You get to play the part you have always dreamed of! The final stage is a performance of their original play for parents, family, and anyone else who wishes to come.

2nd Annual Costume Swap & Mom’s Night Out

The 2nd Annual Costume Swap, is in hosted conjunction with the National Costume Swap Day that was started by www.greenhalloween.org. This is a great way to get new costumes for your kids and giving away old ones that you don’t need any more. Not only are we saving money but helping someone else in the process.

This is a MNO event, perfect timing for moms to get out and enjoy some much needed “Girl Time”. Everyone needs to bring at least 1 costume to swap out. For every costume you bring you get to take a new one in return. We will have a selection of fantastic foods. Bring a bottle of wine to share while you are mingling with friends, and checking out the businesses. This is a perfect opportunity for you get a jump start on your holiday shopping.

In addition to the swap, we will also be collecting new & gently used children’s supplies & clothing for Cradles to Crayons.
In addition to our Costume Swap we will be collecting new or gently used items for the Philadelphia based charity, Cradles to Crayons.
